In his short career with the Reedley Police Department, Javier Bejar, 28, earned a reputation as someone who was a strong leader despite his relative inexperience.

He was the first one to come in to work and the last one to leave. He was eager to move up the ranks, but only if it meant he wouldn’t be stuck behind a desk.

Clovis East boys fail to hang on at home

Santa Monica High hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key with roughly 20 seconds left Tuesday night to eliminate Clovis East 67-65 in the first round of the Southern California Regional Division I boys basketball playoffs.

Unseeded Clovis East (26-8), the Central Section champs, was outscored 20-15 in the final quarter. The Timberwolves’ Kevin Bailey finished with 28 points.

Clovis East owned a 50-47 lead after the third quarter.

Milan Institute Students Host Blood Drive

Clovis, CA – On Thursday, February 25, 2010, Milan Institute, a career school offering training in the healthcare, cosmetology and massage therapy fields, held a blood drive at its Clovis campus. The event was organized by the Medical Assisting students and headed by Sylvia Pogue, the Medical Assisting Instructor. Students managed to collect 49 pints from 57 donors during the brief 4-hour event, all of which was donated to the Central California Blood Center (CCBC).
