Clovis Unified prepared to act quickly in response to public health issues
Recent swine flu cases around California have caused many parents to question what Clovis Unified is doing to respond appropriately to protect the health of our students. First and foremost, each of our actions will be based on our best effort to respond quickly, responsibly and carefully to this evolving situation.
Most recently, our custodial services department has adjusted their already thorough cleaning regime to focus additional efforts on disinfecting high-contact surfaces like desktops and counters. However, what you may not have known is that our normal routine already included disinfecting and cleaning doorknobs in our classrooms and schools every day.
Public schools deal with the possible spread of infectious diseases every day; whether it is regular seasonal flu, staph, or most recently MRSA (Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus) we are familiar with the important things we can do to stop the spread of illnesses. We are continually reminding students and staff of good hygiene practices like frequently handwashing, sneezing/coughing into a sleeve or tissue, and staying home when exhibiting flu symptoms (like a fever, vomiting or diarrhea) . This past winter Clovis Unified took additional steps to treat all of our weight rooms and wrestling mats at all schools with a long-lasting anti-microbial product that will also help stop illnesses from spreading.
Our schools are well prepared for the public health situation we are experiencing, and we will keep our parent community informed through phone calls, emails and our Web site throughout the course of this flu outbreak.
