Washington 54, Sunnyside 18
Senior quarterback Adam McCurley passed for 395 yards and five touchdowns to lead Washington High to a 54-18 victory over Sunnyside in a nonleague football game Friday in Easton.

McCurley passed for 357 yards in the first half as Washington — ranked third by The Bee in Division IV — took a 35-12 lead. The Panthers capped the half by scoring with 54 seconds left on a 51-yard touchdown pass to Josh Williams, who broke three tackles on the play.

In the second half, Deshawn Johnson put the game away with 91 yards on three carries, including an 18-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter.

Bullard 52, Clovis East 12

Jordan Jones and Devan Mack led the way in a blowout for the Knights, The Bee’s No. 2-ranked team.

Clovis East, ranked 14th, was coming off its first win, but Bullard struck early and often taking a 24-0 lead behind scoring runs by Kyle Staples (1 yard), Demetrius Warren (2), Jones (16) and Sean Kuehter’s 17-yard field goal.

Jones also had 5-yard touchdown run and Mack scored on sprints of 9 and 6 yards. Chris Kelly also returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown.

Central 41, El Diamante 27

The No. 11 Grizzlies hit the road and made a strong statement, knocking off the No. 8 Miners.

Robert Johnson scored two early touchdowns before Central put away the game with two Michael Baker touchdown passes in the fourth quarter.

Centennial 41, Clovis West 23

Playing without starting quarterback Ian Hall throughout the second half, the No. 5 Golden Eagles couldn’t keep pace with the Huskies.

John Winston had a 70-yard fumble return for a touchdown for Clovis West, and Gerald Nutt caught a 40-yard touchdown pass.

Hall was knocked out of the game in the first half following a late hit.

Edison 34, Merced 3

Dewayne Scott had three touchdown runs and Max Schuh threw two touchdown passes as the No. 4 Tigers cruised to an easy road victory.

Tevin McDonald helped set up Edison’s first touchdown by stripping the ball from Merced receiver Juan Valencia and recovering the fumble.

Sanger 17, Lemoore 14

Jorge Hernandez kicked a 35-yard field goal with 1:06 remaining in the game to lift the Apaches past the Tigers.

Sanger took possession when Dario Salazar intercepted Scott Loper’s pass and returned it to the Tigers 26-yard line. Four plays later, Hernandez kicked the game winner.

Hoover 31, Tulare Western 0

Shane Martinez threw for 185 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Patriots, who also got a 96-yard kickoff return from Tevin Ivy.

Hoover, ranked 16th in the Central Section, limited Rudy Lujano to 43 passing yards and two interceptions.

Modesto Christian 40, Chowchilla 20

David Sjelin ran for three touchdowns for the Crusaders, all coming in the decisive third quarter when Modesto Christian broke open a 14-14 halftime tie.

Devin Gaines threw two touchdown passes for the Redskins (2-1), who came in ranked No. 2 in D-IV.

Orosi 13, Mendota 9

Jorge Mantano’s 21-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter clinched the Cardinals’ victory.

Estefan Velasco had a 5-yard score for the Aztecs, ranked No. 3 in D-VI.

Reedley 47, Golden West 10

David Cardoza scored three touchdowns and William Szpor added two to lead the Pirates (3-0).

Szpor returned a fumble 34 yards for a touchdown, then returned an interception 15 yards for a score to help put Reedley ahead 33-3 at halftime.

Roosevelt 14, Tranquillity 6

Victor Garcia’s 4-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter catapulted the Rough Riders (2-2). Mark Fields led the ground attack with 35 carries for 125 yards.
