The skinny: Fresno State is the defending champ but heads in as the ultimate underdog, the lowest seed and facing hosts in its opener.

Boise State won regular-season match 2-1 in Fresno, with junior F Claudia Cardenas scoring to avert shutout in final second.

Cardenas (Tulare Western High) leads Bulldogs with 5 goals; sophomore Laura Dodd (Clovis) and freshman Callie Hancock each have 2 goals, 2 assists.

Junior Shannon Saxton and freshman Erica Parks lead Broncos with 6 goals, 2 assists apiece.

Since 2005, Fresno State has played in every tournament championship, winning twice to reach NCAA Tournament.

Bulldogs D Katie Lee (civil engineering major; Smittcamp Honors College; 4.0 GPA) was named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Third Team.
