THE BUZZ

Buchanan lost four starters in the first quarter and another in the third while escaping with a 20-17 win against Clovis East. Injured were receivers Jake East (calf) and Kyle Novak (concussion), running back Nigel Simmons (ankle), offensive tackle Zach Young (shoulder) and defensive end Christian Parra (shoulder). They’re questionable for Friday’s showdown with Central for the TRAC title. Novak and Parra were examined at a hospital and released.

Buchanan coach Mike Vogt says Clovis East is the best-tackling team the Bears have faced this season. The Timberwolves defense features end Willy Irwin, a double-medalist weight thrower for the school’s state co-champion track and field team last spring.

Clovis West sophomore quarterback Ian Hall is out for the season after reinjuring a collarbone broken Sept. 25 in a 41-23 loss at Centennial-Corona. Coach Coby Lindsey is confident the Golden Eagles can make a deep run in the playoffs behind senior Connor Buss.

Stockdale required a blocked punt return for a touchdown and two late defensive stands to repel Frontier while clinching at least a tie for the Southwest Yosemite League title.
