Pairings set for volleyball regionals

The Clovis West High girls volleyball team is back in the Southern California regional playoffs with a chance to build on what they learned last season.

Clovis West (31-10), which won the Central Section championship with an upset over Buchanan, was awarded the No. 4 seed in Division I and will host No. 5 Torrey Pines (25-9) on Tuesday.

Buchanan, despite going 21-1 against Central Section opponents, did not receive an at-large bid in the field of eight.

Clovis West lost in the regional semifinals to Santa Margarita in four sets last year, two matches shy of the state final.

Should Clovis West win, the Golden Eagles could face top-seed Dos Pueblos of Santa Barbara (30-2) in the second round.

In Division II, Frontier (30-9) earned the No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 Scripps Ranch (20-13).

In Division III, No. 3 Tehachapi (28-4) will host No. 6 Cerritos (22-3).

In Division IV, Central Valley Christian (29-3) earned the No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 Laguna Blanca (13-2) on Tuesday. The Cavaliers are coming off their Central Section championship victory over Chowchilla.

And in Division V, two Central Section teams earned berths in the eight-team regional. No. 2 Mission Prep (26-6) will host No. 7 Pacifica Christian (17-7), while No. 4 Fresno Christian (25-10) will host No. 5 Fairmont Prep (16-8).

All matches will be played at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
