Selma wrestler’s streak ends
Selma’s Alex Cisneros suffered the first loss of his high school career in the 112-pound final at the Walsh Ironman wrestling tournament in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
Cisneros, a state champ last season at 103 pounds, won three times against a national-class field before falling 10-4 against Evan Silver of Blair Academy-New Jersey.
Clovis’ Tommy Burriel was third at 189, pinning Stephen McPeek of Bishop Lynch-Texas in 59 seconds. Selma’s Nick Pena (135) was fourth, losing to Jordan Rich of Central Mountain-Pa. 42.
Clovis’ Alex Dieter (135) was seventh with a pin in 3:20 over Mingus — Ariz.’s Luke Goettle, and teammates Clinton McAlester (140) and Zach Nevills (171) placed eighth.
— Even with seven wrestlers at the Ironman, Clovis won the Clovis West Shootout with a 60 record against Vacaville, Gilroy, Bella VistaFair Oaks, El DoradoPlacentia, Ventura and Laguna Hills. Vacaville (5-2) was the away-team winner of the dual-meet event.
Kingsburg takes soccer title
Kingsburg High boys soccer player Andres Saldaña was named Fowler Tournament MVP after contributing a goal and an assist in the Vikings’ 3-0 victory over Chowchilla in the final.
— Buchanan, Madera and Liberty-Madera Ranchos won division championships at the Peggy Renberg girls tournament. Buchanan captured the D-I title, 2-1 over Bullard. Madera beat Madera South 2-1 in D-II and Liberty downed Golden West 4-0 in D-III.
