Day of Remembrance Dinner February 21, 2010
The Fresno Assembly Center Memorial Upgrade Committee will host a Day of Remembrance Dinner and Memorial Groundbreaking on Sunday, February 21, 2010 at the Fresno Fairgrounds. The Dinner will feature presentation of the Distinguished American Awards honoring Congressman Jim Costa, Chief Judge Anthony Ishii, the Clovis Veterans Memorial District and filmmaker Kerry Nakagawa.
The groundbreaking will start at 4:30 pm at the Commerce Building and the Dinner and Awards will follow at 6 pm at the Education Building.
The event kicks off a fundraising campaign to build a memorial honoring thousands of Japanese Americans from the Central Valley who were incarcerated at the fairgrounds when it served as an internment camp assembly center during World War II. Sponsorships are available for the campaign and for the Dinner.
Tickets are $50 for general seating and $25 for youth under age 25 and for Nisei veterans. Checks should be made payable to CCDC-JACL and mailed by February 5, 2010 to FACMU, 265 East Moody Avenue, Fresno, CA 93720. For more information, contact Travis Nishi at 298-7379.
