Clovis ‘Gateway’ sign will go temporarily
When Clovis residents awaken today, they will discover something missing downtown.
The 70-year-old “Gateway to the Sierras” sign that hangs over Clovis Avenue between Fourth and Fifth streets will be gone. At 4 a.m., crews will remove the sign.
The two existing wooden poles that support the sign are being replaced with two decorative steel support poles. Decorative concrete work also is part of the project.
Sidewalk demolition begins Monday. The project will take about a month to complete, said Scott Redelfs, an associate civil engineer for Clovis.
While work is done, traffic lane closures on Clovis Avenue may occur, but the road will not have to be closed, he said.
