$2M donation to help expand Clovis animal shelter

A Clovis animal shelter may finally get a much-needed expansion thanks to a pet owner’s generous donation.

David McDonald’s $2 million donation will help put on the fast track an effort by the city of Clovis to expand its Villa Avenue shelter to more than 15,500 square feet. Construction has been delayed for lack of funds.

McDonald’s gift is in honor of his deceased dog, Miss Winkles. The West Highland terrier died about two years ago after being bitten by a snake.

The former Pelco chief executive also says he was inspired by shelter workers and the care and kindness they show stray animals.

The Clovis City Council planned to discuss the building of the facility on Monday.
