Clovis East, Tulare win in boys hoops tourneys

Central Section powers Clovis East and Tulare highs delivered impressive opening-day performances as boys basketball tournaments cranked back up Monday.

The Timberwolves won twice at the Clovis Elks Christmas Classic — receiving a combined 49 points from Antwoun Whitfield and Kevin Bailey to rout Hoover 85-62 before separating late from Stockdale for an 85-72 decision.

Tulare drew D-IV heavyweight Bakersfield Christian to open the Polly Wilhelmsen Invitational in Visalia, and William Stallworth and Keonta Vernon teamed for 55 points as the 10-0 Redskins prevailed 68-52.
