Messina’s music

Jim Messina — best known from working alongside Kenny Loggins in Loggins & Messina — brings his solo show to Exeter’s Orange Blossom Junction on Tuesday.
Messina’s résumé is actually quite extensive — having worked with Buffalo Springfield, Poco and his own country/rock solo material. His most recent release, however, 2009′s “Under a Mojito Moon” had a Latin flair.
Tickets cost $60 for the concert or $85 with dinner. Dinner starts at 6 p.m. Music begins at 8 p.m.
Cool Chris Botti

Who’s the largest selling American jazz instrumental artist in history? Conventional wisdow would say Kenny G, right?
But no, it’s trumpeter Chris Botti, who vaulted to fame in the late ’90s and ’00s, with Grammy nominations, No. 1 albums and a face pretty enough to land on People Magazine’s “Most Beautiful” list.
Botti brings his smooth jazz/cool-jazz sound to Chukchansi Gold Resort and Casino tonight. Only limited tickets remain.
ArtHop, and you don’t stop

ArtHop — Fresno’s twice monthly celebration of local art and artists — is getting ready for June.
Thursday is the downtown/Tower District installment of ArtHop (the more popular of the two), and warm weather months usually bring bigger crowds to browse various art galleries and makeshift art spaces. It’s all free.

Summertime Shindig

Since Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer, it’s only fitting that the three-day weekend give us a summer kick-off party.
Starline hosts “Splash 2 Summer,” a beach-themed party on Saturday night with DJ Jess from radio station Q97 spinning and a live drummer joining him.
Cover is $10, or $8 with a college ID.
Get your Sudz

It’s hangover weekend — and not just because “Hangover 2″ is bound to draw big crowds.
It’s also time once again for Sudz in the City, Fresno’s annual big brewfest at Chukchansi Park.
More than 30 microbrews will be available for sampling, including locals such as Tioga-Sequoia Brewing Co and Three Monkeys Brewing.
There’s live music from Mezcal, Brad Wilson, The Loungemen and more. Tickets cost $25-$30, $50 for VIP or $10 for designated drivers.
Ready, set, shop antiques

Antique lovers will find blocks of merchandise to shop at the Old Town Clovis Antique & Collectible Fair.
Collectibles will include items such as antiques, jewelry, furniture, fine glassware. There will also be recycled and repurposed items. The event includes free appraisal services from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. Limit is one item per person.

The Coarsegold Peddler’s Market starts Friday and runs through Monday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Besides lot of antique vendors, the event includes gold-panning, food, arts and crafts.

Stand up and salute

The Fresno Community Concert Band, conducted by Robert Nielsen, will present “To Honor Them.” This is the band’s annual tribute to those who fought and died to preserve our freedom.
Veteran radio and television personality Jerry Lee will narrate the “Lincoln Portrait” by Aaron Copland. The narration utilizes the words of the Gettysburg Address.
Nights in the Plaza

It’s that time of the year again. Arte Americas has begun its summer Nights in the Plaza concert series.
Tonight’s concert is with Colombian cumbia group Sonora Explosion Dinamitera, and the shows continue on Fridays through October.

A tribute to OutKast

The latest act to get the Soulflower Group tribute treatment is legendary hip-hop duo OutKast.
For the last few years, Devoya Mayo’s Soulflower Group has put on tribute nights to artists such as Prince, Wu-Tang Clan and others, with the help of eclectic local DJs.
This includes music from DJ F-Plus, K. Pizzle and Ms. Soulflower herself, with a photobooth and more.
Stage 11

L.A. folk/rock band Stage 11 visits Fresno tonight.
It’s a homecoming for guitarist Dustin Arth, who is Fresno bred and a graduate of Hoover High.
His band recently played the Viper Room and L.A.’s Earth Day festival.
The show is free.
