GRANT AWARDED TO HELP ADDRESS AT-RISK YOUTH NEEDS IN FUSD

FRESNO, Calif. – United Black Men of Fresno was awarded a $5,000 Youth Grant from the Fresno Regional Foundation, through Fiscal Sponsorship from Central Valley Children’s Partnership of Clovis.
The generosity of the FRF grant contributed to the work of UBM in building successful afterschool programs for at-risk youth and their families in the Fresno Unified School District. These programs featured educational counseling, tutoring, parent education and mentorship. The services provided improved participating student’s self-esteem, regular school day academic success and provided skills and strategies for college readiness. FRF also made it possible for these students to visit California colleges to be acquainted with the college processes.
The support of the CVCP, a Clovis non-profit, for fiscal sponsorship allowed for increased capacity building in programs and operational effectiveness. This fiscal sponsorship will allow UBM to stay committed to teaching students about their rich cultural heritage and decrease the negative behaviors that ultimately preclude student success.
A big thanks to Fresno Regional Foundation and Central Valley Children’s Partnership for partnering with UBM to raise awareness about programs and services needed to help at-risk students thrive and succeed in this 21st Century.
