Cornerstone Theater Company Presents A Man Comes to Fowler

Community Takes the Stage This Summer in Fowler with Cornerstone Theater Co.
“Cornerstone Theater Company Presents ‘A Man Comes to Fowler’”

Los Angeles, CA—Cornerstone Theater Company has moved to Fowler, CA to create a community-collaborative play. A Man Comes to Fowler follows a man through over 100 years of Fowler’s rich cultural history, as he interacts with influential characters from past to present and witnesses incredible stories of love, loss, and community pride. A Man Comes to Fowler, written by Julie Marie Myatt and directed by Laurie Woolery will perform in Panzak Park on August 11, 12 and 13, 2011 at 8:30 pm. Tickets are pay-what-you-can with a suggested donation of $10 and reservations are strongly recommended. For more information and to reserve tickets call 800-578-1335.

A Man Comes to Fowler was created in collaboration with members of the Fowler community and with particular assistance from local organizations– The Buddhist Church of Fowler, Fowler Baptist Church, St. Paul AME Church, St. Lucy’s Catholic Church, Presbyterian Church of Fowler and the Fowler Public Library—and the City of Fowler.

Cornerstone Theater Company is a professional, non-profit theater company based in Los Angeles that has been creating community specific plays in California and nationwide for 25 years. Cornerstone company members visited and explored Fowler and met with residents over the course of eight months. The resulting play paints an interesting portrait of a fraction of what it means to be a part of this community. The play includes music and shadow puppets and most importantly the talents of many Fowler residents onstage and backstage. Cornerstone hopes that, through the lens of a few well-told stories, audience members will see their community reflected back in new and inspiring ways.

The play is produced as part of an annual program, Cornerstone Theater Institute Summer Residency. Each summer Cornerstone creates a play with a different California community by living within that community for approximately four weeks. Previous Summer Residencies have taken place in Lost Hills (Kern Co.), Holtville (Imperial County) and Grayson (Stanislaus County), among other places. This year thirty Cornerstone artists and Institute students from Los Angeles, across the country and from England are temporarily living in Fowler to get to know the community and produce A Man Comes To Fowler.

Cornerstone Theater Company is a multi-ethnic, ensemble-based theater company. We commission and produce new plays, both original works and contemporary adaptations of classics, which combine the artistry of professional and community collaborators. By making theater with and for people of many ages, cultures and levels of theatrical experience, Cornerstone builds bridges between and within diverse communities in our home city of Los Angeles and nationwide.
