Sports briefs: Ex-Bulldog, Clovis East star Slocum arrested, jailed

Former Fresno State football player Tracy Slocum was arrested in Fresno last weekend following a month-long investigation into allegations of domestic violence, prostitution and sexual assaults.

Investigators suspect Slocum has operated as a pimp in different cities throughout the state over the past several months and possibly longer. Slocum – who prepped at Clovis East High and went to Cal before finishing his football career last fall at Fresno State – was arrested by the United States Marshal Service with the assistance of the Fresno Police Department. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail, where he remains without bail.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims. Anyone with information about is urged to contact Detective Eric Martin of the San Jose Police Department’s Sexual Assault Investigations Unit at (408) 277-4102.

Sunbirds rout Holy Names in soccer

Paul Islas scored a goal and had two assists to lead the host Fresno Pacific men’s soccer team to a 5-1 victory over NAIA No. 16-ranked Holy Names on Tuesday.

Islas and Rodrigo Vianna assisted on the Sunbirds’ first goal of the game, a shot from the corner by Michael Kuehter in the 25th minute. Fabricio Nazare scored the only other goal Fresno Pacific would need, a 25-yard chip shot, in the 39th.

Bruno Pessoa, Vianna and Islas added second-half goals for the Sunbirds (1-1).

  • Demi Hamilton scored Fresno Pacific’s first goal in the 27th minute then assisted on the next two goals as the women’s soccer team defeated Simpson 4-1.

Hamilton’s assists came on goals for Natalie Chaney and Jae Slocum as Fresno Pacific (2-0) built a 3-0 first-half lead. Haley Tallon scored in the second half for the Sunbirds, who outshot Simpson 39-6.

West Hills posts men’s soccer win

Daniel Martins converted Sal Ponce’s corner kick into a first-half goal to help the West Hills College-Lemoore men’s soccer team notch its first victory of the season, 4-1 against Ohlone in Fremont.

The Eagles (1-1-1) pulled away in the second half on goals by Augustine Cordova, Nick Butler and Roman Gomez.

The West Hills-Lemoore women’s soccer team opened its season with a 2-1 loss at Ohlone. Brook Maciel scored the Eagles’ goal on a floater from 35 yards out in the 64th minute, but the Renegades punched in the winner in the 83rd minute.
