GIRLS TENNIS HIGHLIGHTS

Kathryn Ashford won at No. 1 singles and Buchanan gained a measure of revenge with a 7-2 rout of Clovis West, which beat the Bears 5-4 for the Division I championship last year. Buchanan (15-0, 4-0) won five singles matches to clinch the Tri-River Athletic Conference showdown with Clovis West (3-1) that was postponed last Thursday because of poor air quality.

Stephanie Jones pulled out a 1-6, 6-2 (11-9) victory over Theresa Sweeney at No. 1 singles to help Mt. Whitney down Golden West 8-1 in the West Yosemite League.

BOYS WATER POLO HIGHLIGHTS

Phillip Clayman’s six goals and Drew Volpp-Garcia’s hat trick was more than enough for Buchanan in a 20-5 rout of Central that kept the Bears unbeaten at 3-0 in the TRAC.

George Hong scored six goals and Brock Ivancovich five, as Clovis West stayed tied with Buchanan for first place in the TRAC with a 14-6 win against Clovis North, which got three goals from Connor Kennedy.
