Memorial District events mark Clovis centennial

Clovis Veterans Memorial District will hold a series of open houses beginning tonight and concluding Friday with a Christmas tree auction and the naming of a Clovis constable.

The Memorial District donated 12 trees to be auctioned to cover costs its celebration of Clovis’ centennial. Each tree is decorated with 1,000 LED lights.

The trees will be auctioned Friday night. Also, a centennial quilt made by Quilter’s Paradise in downtown Clovis will be unveiled, and the Clovis Centennial book will be available.

Eight men are vying for constable by raising money for a Clovis nonprofit and the Centennial Committee. The nonprofit and the Centennial Committee will divide donations evenly. The man who gets the most donations will become constable. He also will serve as grand marshal of February’s centennial events.

The open house is 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each night with music from local school bands.

The Memorial District building is at Fourth Street and Hughes Avenue, east of the Clovis Cole Hotel in downtown Clovis. Admission is free.
