85 arrested in Valley holiday DUI sweeps
Officers from 21 law enforcement agencies in Fresno and Madera counties arrested 85 people for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs between Dec. 16 and Christmas Day, according to the AVOID anti-DUI campaign in Fresno and Madera counties.
In 2010, 89 DUI arrests were reported during the same 10-day period.
Over the next several days, DUI checkpoints will be held in Fresno, Clovis, Madera, Selma, Sanger, Kerman and throughout rural communities. The California Highway Patrol also had a maximum enforcement period this holiday weekend.
The checkpoints and roving DUI patrols are part of a regionwide crackdown during the 17-day winter holiday period.
