High school winter sports highlights for Wednesday, Feb. 1
GIRLS SOCCER
- Goals by Lauren Sharwood and Alex Bitter lifted Clovis West to a 2-1 upset of No. 1 and host Buchanan in the Tri-River Athletic Conference. Elise Krieghoff scored her 21st goal for the Bears, ranked No. 26 this week in ESPN’s national POWERADE FAB 50.
- Jessica Black notched the winner for No. 3 Clovis in a 1-0 TRAC victory against No. 5 Central.
- McLane got past Madera South 1-0 on Ashley Mitchell’s goal and is tied with the Stallions atop the North Yosemite League.
BOYS BASKETBALL
- Orosi three-year starter Esteban Dominguez scored 25 points while reaching the 1,000-point milestone in a 64-26 win against Strathmore in the East Sequoia League.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
- Estefany Encarnacion had 17 points, and Miyah Rollins and Destiney Real 10 each, as Hoover outlasted McLane 49-39 in a battle between two unbeatens in the North Yosemite League.
- Shellie Perkins had 17 points as Madera upset No. 9 Bullard 56-52 to tie for the County/Metro Athletic Conference lead.
WRESTLING
- Clovis West beat Central 41-28 with Brandon Rodriguez (120) and Chris Garcia (145) scoring major decisions.
- Buchanan downed Clovis East 46-21 behind pins by Theodore Thomson (152), Peter An (182) and Hyun Woo An (195).
