Liberty girls fall in soccer regional semis
Third-seeded Liberty-Madera Ranchos’ historic girls soccer season came to an end in the CIF Southern California Regional Division III semifinals with a 3-0 loss at No. 2 Marymount-Los Angeles.
The Sailors scored all of their goals in the first half before the Hawks clamped down on defense in the second. Marymount (21-4-4) moves on to Friday’s final. Liberty (27-4-1) set a school record for wins, capturing its first Central Section title in Division IV while reaching — and winning a game in — the regional for the first time.
- Cal-Hi Sports’ state-ranked Buchanan (No. 6), Clovis West (No. 9) and Campolindo-Moraga (No. 11) will be among 16 teams in the first Central California Showcase, which will be played on six local diamonds today through Saturday. It will feature two expected first-round professional draft picks as pitchers in Clovis West’s Tyler Ferguson, who has signed with Vanderbilt, and Campolindo’s James Marvel, who has signed with Stanford.
- Senior right-hander Anthony Lopez pitched a no-hitter with seven strikeouts in Hanford’s 17-1 victory against Reedley at the Central Classic. Lopez (3-0) threw five scoreless innings as part of a no-hitter in his previous outing.
- Exeter’s Jamie Good threw a no-hitter in a 14-1 five-inning victory against Strathmore at the Farmersville Tournament. Eli Garver had a triple and three RBIs.
