Sports briefs: 11 local runners finish American River 50
Eddie Nolen of Fresno finished 25th overall at the American River 50 Mile Endurance Run in 7 hours, 20 minutes, 28 seconds to lead a large contingent of Fresno-Clovis runners at the Sacramento race.
Other local finishers were Chris Doos (8:11:56, 68th), Matt James (8:28:34, 93rd), Michele Larson (8:30:11, 97th), Mark Dorman (8:38:52, 113th), Dion Doshier (8:38:53, 114th), Tim Greilich (9:13:12, 176th), Kyle Cirrincione (9:14:21, 179th), David Thull (9:56:18, 282nd), Sarah Wilson (10:43:09, 405th) and David Lehman (11:30:24, 493rd).
Vajin Armstrong of New Zealand was the overall winner in 5:53:14. Canadian Ellie Greenwood won the women’s division in 6:18:29.
Clovis Rodeo crowns Ranch champions
Don McCaslin, JW Brewer, Hec Hurley and Lee Whitney combined to win team all-around honors at the Clovis Ranch Rodeo.
Meredith Burroughs, Kelli Roberts, Lacey Bourdet and Heidi Lackey formed the first-place Cowgirl team. The event is a prelude to the 98th Clovis Rodeo, set for April 26-29.
Sunbirds water polo team wins in SoCal
Fresno Pacific’s water polo team beat host Cal State San Bernardino 15-13.
Jaimie Lugo scored three goals for the Sunbirds (6-23). The Coyotes are 4-26.
West Hills splits pair
West Hills split a nonconference baseball doubleheader with Victor Valley, winning the opener 12-7 before losing 4-3.
Ian Horne had four hits for the Falcons (13-17) in game 1, while John Berrera went 3 for 4 with four RBIs.
