Prep highlights 5/12

BASEBALL

• Logan Carter gave up one run in six innings, and Ryan Clark, Joseph Garabedian and Scott Silva each tripled as Clovis West — No. 4 in the state — roared toward an expected No. 1 seed in the Division I playoffs with an 8-1 rout of Clovis. The Golden Eagles have but one legitimate threat for the D-I top seed — Bullard — and Clovis West beat the Knights 12-1 in February. The baseball and softball seeds will be determined today in the office of section commissioner Jim Crichlow in Porterville.

SOFTBALL

• Lindsey Clarkson pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts as Central defeated Clovis East 8-0 to clinch outright the TRAC title. Kaylynn Burt was 4-for-5 with four RBIs for the Grizzlies, who will battle El Diamante for the top D-I seed. Central and the state’s seventh-ranked Miners split two games.
