In brief: Clovis police officer honored by MADD

Clovis police officer Ryan Wade received a California Hero Award on Saturday at the 14th Annual Statewide Law Enforcement and Community Recognition event in Sacramento.

The event, sponsored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving, recognizes law-enforcement officers and other community leaders for outstanding contributions in the fight against drunken driving.

Wade made 57 drunken-driving arrests in 2011, accounting for 17% of the department’s total DUI arrests.

Groundbreaking event at Fresno High

Fresno High School will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for construction of new buildings for the school library, classrooms, career center and administration at a special event at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The ceremony will be on the Echo Avenue side of campus and will feature student performances, speakers and the JROTC.

Citizen’s committee meeting canceled

The Monday meeting of the Citizen’s Advisory Committee in Fresno has been canceled and will be rescheduled. Details: fresno.gov/newplan.
