3 Fresno men held in wire theft near Buchanan High

Three Fresno men have been arrested on suspicion of stealing $2,500 worth of copper wire from street lights near Buchanan High School, Clovis police said.

Officers were dispatched to the subdivision across from Buchanan High School when a resident reported seeing a box near the bottom of the street light open Saturday afternoon. Officers found wire had been stolen from five boxes, leaving the neighborhood in the dark.

On Sunday night, the men returned to the neighborhood to steal more wire. Clovis police officers caught one man after he fled the car the men were riding in. Two other suspects remained at the car and were arrested. The three men — ages 45, 42 and 27 — were jailed on suspicion of theft and burglary charges.

In addition, police arrested the girlfriend of one of the men during a search of their home Tuesday. The 43-year-old woman was held on an arrest warrant and for felony possession of controlled substances.
