Fresno police write 380 citations during school safety push
In the first week of school, Fresno police officers wrote more than 380 citations during a beefed-up operation that promotes school-zone safety.
Children attending Fresno and Clovis unified school districts began school on Aug. 20. In response, Fresno police dispatched 50 officers to various schools throughout the city to ensure drivers are obeying traffic laws, Sgt. Bruce Owen said.
In all, 147 motorists were cited for speeding in a school zone and 234 motorists were cited for other violations, Owen said.
The speed limit in a school zone is 25 mph, Owen said. The operation, called “No Recess for Safety,” will continue through the end of the month outside elementary, middle and high schools, he said.
