Central Valley magazine needs your recipes using local ingredients

Did you know the Central Valley, your own backyard, supplies approximately half of the nation’s fruits and vegetables? And that most of that comes from the Central Valley? Central Valley Flavors wants to celebrate the bounty that comes from our Valley and we want your homegrown recipes to show off.

Central Valley Flavors, a product of The Bee’s new magazine, Central Valley, will publish November 17. There is no cost to share what great dishes can be made using the ingredients you love. When your recipe is printed in Central Valley Flavors, your name will be listed alongside the recipe. If you have a photo of that recipe, we encourage you to send that along as well.

Recipes must include any of the following Valley-grown or -produced ingredients:
  • Cheese
  • Milk/Butter
  • Citrus
  • Pomegranate
  • plums
  • nectarines
  • peaches
  • apricots
  • apples
  • figs
  • olives & olive oils
  • pistachios
  • almonds
  • walnuts
  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Melons/cantaloupe
  • Grapes
  • Raisins
  • Lettuce
  • Tomatoes
  • Garlic
  • Onions
  • Asparagus
  • Specialty/Asian/organic vegetables
  • Wine (Fresno and Madera)
  • Honey
  • Beef
  • Poultry

Send recipes by email to custom@fresnobee.com no later than Oct. 5. Be sure to put RECIPE in the subject field. Please include your name, city and a daytime phone number (We might ask you to cook up a batch just so we can take photos of your delectable dish!). And if you buy your ingredients somewhere special, tell us that, too.

Don’t wait! If you own a local farm and have a family recipe to share, all the better! If you’re a local chef who uses locally grown ingredients, please share. If you’ve got a recipe that melts in your mouth because you use local ingredients, share. Share, share, share. We need to strut our stuff a little!
