Hanford girls roll at hoops tourney

College-bound centers Bayli McClard of Hanford High and Erica McCall of Ridgeview are headed for a showdown tonight after the Bullpups and Wolf Pack coasted to first-round girls basketball wins Thursday night in the Central Valley Showdown at Clovis West.
Hanford, a five-year reigning Central Section champion ranked No. 15 in the state to start this season, received 14 points from Chelsea Perryman while defeating Clayton Valley 62-43.
McClard, headed to Gonzaga, scored nine points. But Hanford senior guard Gabby Gomez, who is coming back from an ACL injury, is questionable for today’s 5:30 p.m. quarterfinal against state No. 21 Ridgeview after possibly re-injuring the knee.
Hanford has won 97 consecutive games against section competition.
McCall, who has signed with Stanford, scored 26 points in the Wolf Pack’s 68-45 win over Clovis East.
Mater Dei-Santa Ana, the state’s two-time defending Division I champion and ranked No. 3 in the state, defeated Bullard 77-43.
Clovis West pointed to today’s 8:30 p.m. quarterfinal with Tri-River Athletic Conference rival Clovis North after routing Memorial behind 15 points from Sydne Gutierrez and 14 apiece by Emma Guerrero and Aysha Kirkland.
Clovis North outscored Lincoln-Stockton 10-5 in the fourth quarter while rallying for a 51-50 win.
