Wrestling: Clovis West Shootout features top teams

California’s top-ranked high school wrestling team, as well as the No. 1 squads from Oregon and Georgia, are entered in this weekend’s 26th annual Clovis West Shootout, as two-time defending CIF State champ Clovis headlines a 16-team field that includes Hensley, Ore., and Collins Hill, Ga.

Wrestling begins at 10 a.m. Friday with the duals portion of the two-day event, where home schools Clovis, Bullard, Buchanan, Clovis North and Clovis West face away schools Hensley, Collins Hill, Turlock, Laguna Hills and Bella Vista-Fair Oaks in the large schools division. Selma, Dos Palos, Livermore, Quartz Hill, Paso Robles and Rancho Bernardo-San Diego are in the small schools bracket.

An individual tournament starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, with the top eight wrestlers per weight class in the Gold bracket and the next eight in Silver.
