Two Valley schools nominated for national award
Two Fresno-area elementary schools were selected as National Blue Ribbon Honors nominees by the state Department of Education.
James K. Polk Elementary in Central Unified and James S. Fugman Elementary in Clovis Unified were two of 35 K-12 schools statewide nominated for the National Blue Ribbon award, the state said Thursday.
High-performing schools are eligible for the award by scoring in the 85th percentile of students testing as proficient or better in English-Language arts and math on the state tests.
Eligible improving schools must have at least 40% of students from disadvantaged backgrounds that are also among the top 10% of schools in the state showing the greatest improvement in the percent of students scoring proficient or better in English-Language arts and math.

A National speaker, Lt. Colonel Dave Grossman, who has studied and written about violence and killing is coming to the Fresno area Saturday, January 26, 2013 to present a seminar called “Bullet Proof Mind for the ARMED Citizen.
Since the recent tragedy in Sandy Hook, Lt. Colonel Dave Grossman has been one of the primary subject matter experts the national media has reach out to for commentary and analysis. This seminar will be hosted in Clovis.
