Adrian Wiggins hired as Clovis East boys basketball coach

It’s official: Adrian Wiggins will be the next Clovis East High boys basketball coach.

The former Fresno State women’s basketball coach will begin teaching at Clovis Online School immediately and on July 1 will take over the Timberwolves basketball program, Clovis Unified School District announced Monday.

Wiggins, 39, left Fresno State in March to become the women’s coach at the University of Mississippi. He was dismissed by Ole Miss in October before coaching a single game amid an investigation into recruiting and academic irregularities.

He went 175-66 at Fresno State in seven-plus seasons, culminating with five straight NCAA Tournament appearances.

Wiggins, who reportedly was lined up for the Clovis East job two weeks ago, will teach social science at Clovis Online School, a charter school for grades nine through 12.

Interim coach Mike Gregory will continue to lead the Clovis East boys team this season after he stepped into the role following ex-coach Tim Amundsen’s resignation in September to take over as the Central High boys coach.
